Ribbons

This post was inspired by my friend, whom I've mentioned before is traveling her own windy road with IBD. We are always finding ways to send each other little tidbits of laughter or support. She can really crack me up and she just sent me a few emails about the awareness ribbons for IBD.

Apparently there is some sort of discrepancy as to what the color ribbon is for IBD awareness, some people say it's purple and others that it's blue (this is what the CCFA uses). However both of these colors are also used for a number of other causes. Of course many people might be aware that the ribbon for colon and colorectal cancers is brown.

I would like to stop right here and say why does it seriously have to be so literal, brown, really I mean come on. Breast cancer and ovarian cancer get pretty pink and teal and people with butt/intestinal cancers seriously get the color of poop! So with that said, we came across the ribbon you'll see in the middle at the top. And although grossly graphic in what we deal with everyday -- brown and red (you can figure out what those things represent) -- it cracks me up because I guess people with poop problems really do have a good sense of humor. It's one of the main things that makes each day bearable, if you can't laugh at yourself you won't get very far.

What better way to start the topic of IBD than using the brown and red ribbon to be open and up front about potty problems. It should really help woman since most people believe we don't poop anyway:) You can just say, "See this here ribbon, well it's a colorful representation of a day in the life of me and my BFF the porcelain potty, the john, etc. Do you want to know more about IBD?"

So whichever color you prefer, remember to share the ribbon of your choice with the people around you and spread the awareness for all IBD sufferers. Brown and Red Power, go team!

Dude. I started from the most recent post and thought the same thing from ribbon at the top of the page. "Seriously, the ribbon is brown?" I thought.
