Cheer Up Charlie

Show me a smile...

You know that song from the original W.illy W.onka and the C.hocolate Factory movie? Well I sing it a lot around here. I LOVE that movie. But now it has a whole new meaning.

Even with all the craziness that is the Abscess/Fistula business of the last two weeks, last Saturday we, drum roll please............................................................................................

Adopted a PUPPY and named her CHARLIE!!!!!!!

Yep, that's right we have a new member of the family and we are in LOVE. She's just what we need to focus on right now and keep our spirits high.

She's a lab/shephard mix, 3 months old and the cutest thing ever!

It all happened so fast. Our dear friend was fostering her for a woman who rescued the little miss from a VERY bad situation. Charlie (first name not known, second name Dolly -- luckily she doesn't have an identity crisis) had been hit by a car and suffered a broken leg. Apparently her first owner kept throwing her out of the house after that, but tough as she is, she kept burrowing her way back in to the yard to be with her litter mates. Heart breaking, I know wipe the tears now.

But then she was saved and taken to the vet and loved and three weeks later she's a member of the Chronicles of Crap household. We are so thankful to our friend for calling us about her.

The hubs has wanted a dog forever and I have been very reluctant. But there is something about this girl that is just meant to be in our family. For heaven's sake, I had to take her to the vet on Monday because she has some skin irritation and she's now on the devil drug -- P.rednisone!

And you should see the hubs, how he loves her and is so very distraught and concerned about her itching. It truly bothers him that she may be so uncomfortable (although it really doesn't seem to bother her) and he's so excited to see her when he gets home. It's so cute and just reminds me everyday what a wonderful daddy he's going to be.

I was very concerned how our two cats Buddy and Oreo would handle things, especially Oreo who is very skiddish. But to our amazement all is going so well, we all coexist very happily with no issues. Charlie is very good about not charging the cats and I think they appreciate this but they do let her know when she's too close;)

Now you may be thinking, wow that Al she sure loves pets and yes it would seem so since we now have 3. But in reality, I'm kind of take it or leave it when it comes to furry friends, but once I have them I really LOVE them.

I truly believe that although we may have rescued Miss Charlie, she has certainly rescued us as well. Her sweet face and loving nature is impossible to resist and having her to dote on is a GREAT distraction while we wait for an adoption of a different kind. She really is giving me healing powers.

She is our Cheer up Charlie!

Oh gosh - she is sa-weet!!! What a cutie pie and a great distraction for sure. Franklin was our distraction. I hope that you don't have to wait too long but I'm sure Miss Charlie will keep you plenty occupied. Enjoy!

Oh Als I'm SO very happy for you and Chuck! What a blessing she is. I love the name- and the song too ;) As for the itching, my Lucy has had allergies since we adopted her. We tried everything, creams, steroids, allergy shots, shampoos, nothing worked! The only thing that keeps the itching away is the steroids, which is unfortunate because they are not good for her long term. But I'd rather live a little bit shorter happy life, than be miserable with her itchies everyday. I hope Charlie outgrows hers! Congrats again, and so happy she gets along with the kitties! XOXO
