I just spoke to my awesome Care Advocate at Cigna and she said they have decided to temporarily switch my network to one within Cigna that San Diego dr is a part of. This will go into effect October 1, just one week from today.
On that date, she will be able to submit my referral request to be treated by San Diego dr and then this new medical group will have 3-5 days to approve or deny based on medical necessity. (This paperwork can't be submitted until I'm actually a part of the group.)
From what I can figure, it seems as if getting it approved shouldn't be a problem seeing as San Diego dr is part of the new group and has already written a letter stating my medical necessity and his word will now mean more since he will be considered a network doctor.
So what this all means is that theoretically I could get an approval the second week in October and be scheduling surgery ASAP.
It's all so exciting and I'm just so pleasantly surprised with how easy this has been since we got the hubs HR person involved and the Big Car Company's Cigna rep involved. The woman I've been dealing with has not only been diligent in her job but so genuinely compassionate and concerned. She even thanked me today for giving her the opportunity to help me!!! It's all just so foreign to what we've been experiencing up to this point. I'm definitely going to be sending her something big in thanks!
I'm still trying to stay cautiously optimistic just in case. So keep those fingers crossed and prayers coming that we make it through this final step and that we will hopefully be making an appointment for surgery soon...
